As a consultant who deals with a lot of home users, I get this question a lot. ”Should I hack my iPhone/iPod?” My answer to the person is always the same and that answer is no. Why you ask? You shouldn’t hack your device because a lot of the software used to do it isn’t that stable.
Even though any piece of software available to use gives you detailed instructions on how to do it, I still wouldn’t recommend you do it.
I hacked my old iPod Touch a while back and was not happy with the way it worked after that. Sure I enjoyed having my wallpaper turn into the Family Guy cast and some of the free apps that were available but at the end of the day it all wasn’t really worth it because my iPod started to crash randomly. I would be watching a movie on the train and it would just turn off on its own with a full battery charge.
For those of you that don’t care and think you can do it better, I used BlackRain to do it. They give you detailed instructions on how to get it up and running properly.
I would also suggest that you wait until your device is no longer covered under Apple warranty.
Just as a reminder, if you do decide to hack your device and don’t like it, you have to restore it in Itunes to its default settings. I know some of you are crazy about your playlists and doing this ERASES all of them so BE CAREFUL!
