See - you fell for it too. While facebook used to be plagued with "Free " ad such as the one to the right < - Apple's new social media service, Ping, is now spammers next target. Security firm Sophos comments that Apple did nothing to implement any sort of URL filtering to stop spammers, yet your profile picture will not show until approved by Apple - probably for content filtering (so no pics of flipping the bird). Ping also doesn't require a credit card or any other positive identification, so fake accounts are easily created. ...

Kara Swisher (aka mini-Walt Mossberg) wrote an article on All Things Digital about why there was no Facebook integration with the new Ping service - Apple's new Social Media tool that is now a huge part of iTunes 10. Jobs, according to Swisher, pretty much said that Apple had discussions with Facebook but they ultimately went nowhere. This has not been a good summer for Apple. They have experienced a number of problems ranging from Gizmodo revealing the iPhone 4, before Steve Jobs, iTunes accounts being hacked to buy thousands of dollars worth of apps, and of course antennagate. Well Apple's summer of bad luck continues: an undisclosed number of iTunes accounts, linked to Paypal have been compromised.
