As big corporations are becoming smaller, the smaller companies are becoming home based operations. Now you have a small business with 6 employees working from their homes anywhere in the world.
Email is still the cheapest way to communicate but now each of those 6 people have 2 computers, a smartphone, maybe a tablet and it’s getting hard to manage.
On top of that there are scheduling issues, and keeping track of contacts.
Welcome to the world of Kerio Connect 7. Kerio Connect is a solid Microsoft Exchange alternative without the costs of Microsoft Exchange.
As a Kerio Connect administrator I can 100% without a doubt state that this program is amazing on so many levels. The administration tools are very intuitive, the support for CalDAV, so many smart phones, etc etc.
One of the nice features in the new version of Kerio Connect (which used to be called Kerio Mail Server) is the ability for people to administer their own domain over the web when they have a hosted solution. For example, even though Kerio is hosted on another companies server, you as an administrator can see all the users in your domain, and make whatever edits are necessary (i.e. add/remove users, reset passwords, etc). As the host administrator you can set limits on how many email addresses a particular domain is allowed to have, so it makes a nice synergy.
For administrators that host their own Kerio Connect, backup and archiving is a breeze – just click a button. You can even allow for clients to recover deleted emails – and how many times have we needed that!!
For a small business less than 10 people I wouldn’t suggest hosting your own Kerio Connect 7 because the start up costs may be a bit high, but if you are planning to expand quickly you may want to bite the bullet. If you are planning staying at less than 10 people, a hosted solution would be perfect because you get all the benefits of the email, contacts and calendaring without all the headaches of making sure it’s backed up. Of course do your research and find the right host who provides you upfront with what they can and can not do but that’s another post.
