Is the new Apple TV the cousin of the iPad?
Posted by Justin on Sep 29, 2010, Categories: Apple Stuff
iFixit.com has posted it's teardown of the new Apple TV. The findings inside? Apples A4 chip (same as the iPad and iPhone 4), an 8GB NAND flash chip, and 256MB of RAM. On the side of the Apple TV's logic board were solder pads that would be a perfect fit for the iDevices dock connector.
Technology wise it's very similar to the iPad and iPhone, and now that we know it's running iOS - the jailbreaking community will be hard at work cracking this one!

Posted by Justin on Sep 28, 2010, Categories: Apple Stuff
Apple has finally determined that some ATI x1900 XT cards (the big red ones) used in the original MacPro and the MacPro (8x) may have some issues. Cards with V6Z in the last 4 digits are subjected to a recall. If you have an ATI card (check your system profiler), bring the card itself to an Apple Authorized Service Provider or an Apple Store for verification and exchange. If you have had the card replaced with another of like kind and paid for it, contact Apple for a refund. More details are here. ...

Apple approves Google Voice App
Posted by Justin on Sep 28, 2010, Categories: iPhone
Oh this battle again???? Ok here's the history: The original official Google Voice app was denied by Apple in 2009, siting "duplicating features that come with the iPhone." The denial caused an FCC investigation regarding Apple's app approval process. Since then Apple published new guidelines which has not only streamlined the entire approval process, but allowed many developers to finally get approval. Apple has already approved a few non-official Google Voice apps, but finally approved the official one. Google has held off on the release in order to support the latest SDK and include...

Posted by Justin on Sep 28, 2010, Categories: Apple Stuff
Orders for the new AppleTV were pushed back to start shipping this week, and while no one has one in hand the Jailbreak community has already said they can Jailbreak it. How you ask? A piece of software called SHAtter. SHAtter is the Dev-Team's way to overkill jailbreak any iDevice. Now how does the Jailbreaking community know that this will work? Twitter user Chpwn (who is an iPhone Developer) found a link on Apple's site to download a restore IPSW file. IPSW files are the software files (apps and OS) for iDevices. Quoted...

Rumor Alert – 11.6″ MacBook Air?!?!?!
Posted by Justin on Sep 27, 2010, Categories: Apple Stuff
MacBook Air, the 1.5lbs, low power, super portable laptop isn't doing so well. Introduced in January 2008 (I was at that MacWorld!) and last updated in June of 2009, the Air is a great laptop for those on the go. The lack of upgrades made it un-welcomed by a lot of computer users. The machine comes with 2GB of built in RAM, and either an 80GB or 128GB SSD HD. So what's the rumor? A smaller version of course! Try a 11.6" screen. Try a carbon-fiber enclosure to make it thinner and lighter....

Want to FaceTime in the UAE – think Again!
Posted by Justin on Sep 27, 2010, Categories: iPhone
Du, the official telecom provider in the United Arab Emirates, tweeted over the weekend that FaceTime will not be available for customers. Though the iPhone has not yet officially launched in the UAE, Du decided to inform customers that FaceTime will be disabled. There are local restrictions on the VoIP technology that block these kind of communications. According to The Next Web, it seems that Apple pulled FaceTime, because they assumed that it wouldn't fly with the local regulations. Apple realized their mistake, and reached out to the local telecoms to fix the issue, but the telecoms declined the...
