According to the LA Times the light emitted from the iPad screen "inhibits the release of melatonin, a chemical that tells your body to window down for the evening."  The effect happens with any devices that emits this type of backlight, such as computer monitors, or cell phones - but the effect is increased due to the closeness that which a user holds their iPad to their face. If you like reading at night, don't fret - use the Amazon Kindle or the Barnes and Nobles Nook.  Since these devices do not have a backlight, your melatonin secretion stays where...

I travel all over the city everyday from client to client.  When I first started doing what I do, I had no data plan on my cell phone.  I was rocking the Motorola Krzr.  It was a bit of pain having to rely on my iPod Touch for email and Internet when I was on the go but I was always able to find an unlocked WiFi network. They’re a few reasons why this is not good.  For starters, you’re now letting anyone who wants to get free Internet.  They can do anything they want on your network, like search newsgroups...

Well I can't say I told you so, but I can say that it was only a matter of time. HP (HPQ) will be swallowing the downward spiraling Palm (PALM) for 1.2 billion dollars.  HP will pay $5.70 a share in cash, a 23% premium over Palm's closing price of $4.64 on Wednesday. Last week reports came out that HTC was not interested in purchasing the failing phone provider. The guys over at Panic have finally released Transmit 4.0 - the latest in their FTP client.  The new version boasts over 45 new features and 25 times the speed.  They've also made it very easy to upload files to not only FTP but also SFTP, Amazon S3 or WebDAV.  Graphically they changed Transmit to look a lot like the Finder - including Coverflow views, Folders before files, and even color labels.  Panic also included the ability to mount any of your favorite FTP sites right onto the Finder as a disk - even if Transmit isn't running. Pricing is...

Gizmodo Editor Has House Searched For Evidence

I bought a prototype iPhone and all I got was a lousy search warrant. This past Friday, Gizmodo Editor Jason Chen came home to the Police searching through his things looking for evidence that will most likely lead to a nasty court case. Police told Chen that they were searching for items that may have been "used as a means of committing a felony."  During the search the Police took multiple computers, hard drives, and an iPhone seized as evidence. Nobody knows what Apple's motives are yet but this does not look like it is going to turn out...
